Today I went to the theater. I paid almost 30 euros to get a front seat in the comedy theater on boulevard of Strasbourg. We watched “Spamalot” in french. The Broadway musical has arrived in Paris, new french adaptation. It was fun, the actors were good and the plot was interesting. At least the first act. After that it became amusing, glittery if I could say so and sexy. You cannot have good comedy without having something sexual in it. At least for the french. I don’t know why I wasn’t excited about this musical. Under the lights, beautiful costumes and good singers it lays a poor plot, badly written which is humorous.
I realized that in life, most of the things that are offered to us have a nice glow and when you unwrap them it is disappointing. We want to have satisfaction, constantly looking for pleasures, the entertainment to makes us feel good. Searching for beauty, delight, chasing after objects to fill our life, our homes, our relationships. We are lovesick and unsatisfied.
God is here with us, he promises a fulfilled life of joy and excitement and we refuse it because it doesn’t meet our expectations, it is not according to our standards . Living in a society that transforms our souls we don’t find time for Christ. We reject His presence because we know it will make us vulnerable, not ready yet to search in our self and dig out the sin, the filth, pride, misery that attacks our bodies. Falling in desperation, we want to heal fast. I always wonder, why Jesus is not enough for some of us, why we lack faith, why there is a need constant pleasure to feel good?
In Psalm 37:4 it says: “ Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Only when we delight in the Lord we will be given the desires of our hearts. The answer to our anguish, anxiety and fear is “delighting ourselves in God”. It is the joy we take in listening , talking, sharing our concerns, confessing our frustrations to him , in unanswered prayers, sometimes even in our lack of faith, this is real relationship where he becomes part of our lives.
Take this quest this week like king Arthur in searching of the Holy Grail, to seek God, to find the the desire for Him. See why Jesus is not sufficient and make him enough. Trust him even if it seems crazy. Find pleasure in his Word. Look towards the future, see what you could became only if you put Jesus first in your life.
One week. Try it.
good to see this
